Juniper Was Good

Who was good? Juniper Was Good!

Juniper Was Good is a band from the Peoria area. They are a three-member group, consisting of Kuda, Kuba, and Andrew. Kuda is on vocals and bass, along with acoustic guitar. Kuba plays the electric guitar, and Andrew is on the drums, as well as support vocals and the occasional guitar. I can't stress it enough when I say that Kuda has some of the most angelic vocals in the area. There is something about it that makes me instantly happy. Kuda, Kuba, and Andrew are a lively bunch, and have a great stage presence. Additionally, they are great at enabling crowd interaction. It is hard not to dance and clap along when they are playing!

Juniper Was Good released their latest single "softie" on August 30th, which is one song off of their upcoming EP Don't Tell Mom. This song is their first release in three years, and I am excited to have more Juniper Was Good to listen to! One of my personal favorite songs by them is "Midnight Screening (Demo).”

I contacted Juniper Was Good to ask a few questions about the band!

How would you describe the genre of music you make?

Kuda: I feel like my answer changes every time I answer, but I would say we make indie rock music at the end of the day! It’s the genre of music that first grabbed me as a kid, I was big into bands like Two Door Cinema Club, so it feels like a home base to me.

What was performing live like when you first started vs now?

Kuda: Honestly it feels the same as when I started. I’ve always loved being on stage and cutting loose, it’s very freeing. Honestly sometimes I wish all three of us were completely wireless so we could all move around more!

What inspires you most to make music?

Kuda: Tbh I think it’s just my special interest! But beyond that, I just love making music, especially recording and mixing and stuff. I think music is such a powerful story telling medium, and honestly I just want take people for a ride with our songs

How long have you been making/playing music?

Kuda: I’ve been making music since I was a bout 13. My best friend started learning the drums and I got jealous so I learned the bass lol. We started our first band together in high school and I really haven’t stopped since.

What is your favorite movie?

Kuda: Uhhhhhhhh, tbh anything with Meryl Streep 😂

You can find Juniper Was Good on social media here! They don't have any upcoming shows currently posted, but definitely keep up with their Instagram for updates! You can view a short clip of them performing at Truelove Hill below!

  2. Ryan, this blog is so awesome! Thank you for sharing these smaller bands with the world. Not being from the area, it is really cool to see so many local musicians that are out here living their dreams. I especially found it entertaining to hear about the band's origin and how it's continued to grow from there. Hopefully, I'll be able to go out and actually hear one of these bands live soon!
