Aftersome

You may be asking yourself,
after what? What is Aftersome? Well, you don't have to wonder any longer as I am here to enlighten you today.

Illinois is full of creative communities that build each other up and support each other’s work. Aftersome is one of numerous amazing bands in the central Illinois area. I was introduced to Peoria's DIY music scene in 2021 when I made friends with them.

Aftersome is a three-piece group in their early 20s from the Peoria area. The band consists of Luke, Lennon, and Ethan, who all happen to be left-handed! These three fellas are best friends, and they love Red Hot Chili Peppers. Luke is the drummer, but also one of the singers! He is skilled at keeping a level singing voice with all the physical work involved in drumming. Lennon is the bassist and other singer of Aftersome. He is a mysterious dude and his finger-picking on the bass is a must-see! Ethan is the one and only guitarist. You can’t miss him on stage with his one-of-a-kind shirts and sick-ass guitar solos!

Aftersome has released multiple singles over the years, along with their EPLeave It Far Away, which debuted in 2022. They are continuously developing new songs, which they first showcase at their live shows long before recording to share online. One of my favorite currently unreleased songs of theirs is “Depressed Skater.” This song is slightly different than their other music as it branches into new subsets of rock than they had done previously! I have heard they are working on recording their latest songs for a new EP, which will hopefully drop soon. Keep your eyes open and your fingers crossed!

I had the opportunity to sit my good friend Luke of Aftersome down to ask a few hard hitting questions:

What inspires you most to make music?

Luke: Lennon. He’s been the person who introduced me to new music and inspired me to make new music!

How long have you been making music?

Luke: I have been making music for 8 years. First as a joke, but then for real starting in high school.

How would you describe the genre of music that you make?

Luke: I would say we are generally rock music, but we make a lot of different stuff.

What is your favorite part about performing music live?

Luke: My favorite part about performing is the feeling of passion and energy that surrounds a room of people just having a damn good time!

You can find links to Aftersome’s social media pages here! You can also view a video of their song “Receiver” live in 2022 below, filmed by childhood friend of the band Kailyn. Their next show is at Mt. Moon Fest 3 in Peoria Heights on August 31st, which you can find more information about here. You can also catch them at Oliver’s in the Heights on September 20th from 8-11pm!
